Days in Copenhagen

Days in Copenhagen

MARNO JOURNAL

I’ve decided to start the MARNO JOURNAL.

I’ll be sharing the stories behind our clothing, the people and places we encounter along the way, and the moments that have left a lasting impression.

I hope to gradually share my thoughts on the daily process of creating our pieces, as well as the feelings I often find hard to fully express.

For the first installment, I’ll be writing about the pop-up we held at TADAIMA during Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Ever since launching the brand, my priority has been to create clothes that people naturally want to reach for, even as time goes by.

I’ve continued to craft pieces that connect with the garments already cherished in a person’s wardrobe, gradually blending into it over time.

This year, as we celebrate our 5th anniversary, I’ve been reminded of the connections with the customers, artisans, and colleagues who have supported us and helped grow the brand together. At the same time, I’ve found myself wanting to know how MARNO’s clothes will be received by people who haven’t encountered them yet.

I’d like to reflect on the passion for craftsmanship that we’ve always cherished—a passion I felt anew—along with my experiences during my time in Copenhagen.

In August 2026, MARNO heads to Copenhagen.

Bright light, nature right at your doorstep, and the unpretentious demeanor of the people.

Amid days spent in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere, a sense of cherishing objects and daily life takes root naturally.

TADAIMA—a place I first visited the previous summer and was instantly captivated by.

The space where furniture, art, and fashion coexist, along with the discerning eye behind each carefully selected piece, has stayed with me ever since.

Through a special pop-up collaboration with TADAIMA, we were given the opportunity to showcase the Japanese craftsmanship we hold dear

in this city, where a pleasant atmosphere and a gentle flow of time prevail.

Seeing MARNO’s clothing displayed in a space that had captivated us felt like a dream come true.

At the same time, taking on our first overseas challenge brought with it both anticipation and nervousness.

Meeting new people in a faraway place and sharing the stories behind our craftsmanship

that’s how those few days began.

For this POP UP, we prepared two special pieces that reflect MARNO’s approach to craftsmanship:

a jacquard fringe stole made in collaboration with TADAIMA, woven in Kiryu, Japan,

and a 100% pure Japanese silk pleated stole created with ”Itoyuki”, a long-established silk fabric specialist in Kyoto.

Behind the beautiful texture of silk lies the craftsmanship of those who raise silkworms, spin the threads, and weave them into fabric.

We hoped these pieces would offer an opportunity to discover the care and dedication behind a material that often goes unseen.

The regions where textiles are made, the techniques passed down through generations, and the histories behind them.

Materials and craftsmanship can continue to be passed on to future generations when they are appreciated, worn, and loved as part of everyday life.

We believe MARNO’s role is to bring these qualities into a form that feels natural in the way we dress today.

The stories woven into each piece of craftsmanship are also part of what we hope to share through the clothes we create.

At the pop-up, we were deeply encouraged to see so many people take an interest not only in the beauty of the pieces,

but also in the origins, techniques, and histories behind Japanese craftsmanship.

Where something comes from. Whose hands made it. How it came to be.

Seeing people engage with these stories in their own way reminded us

that the values MARNO holds close can resonate beyond borders and language.

To see MARNO pieces meet new people in Copenhagen,

and become part of their everyday lives and personal style, was a meaningful experience for us.

We hope to continue sharing the craftsmanship of Japan and the stories behind it through the clothes we create.
